Fairfield, Connecticut is steeped in history, and those who are drawn to our nation’s origins are especially enamored by it. In the 1630s, some dissatisfied Puritans left the Massachusetts Bay Colony and headed for “Unquowa,” which is now known as Fairfield. The town was born and flourished but was later caught up in the Revolutionary War, being in a key position near the Long Island Sound. It was burned down, rebuilt, survived two world wars, and continued to grow and thrive.
Today, Fairfield is a bustling beach community on the Long Island Sound and is part of Connecticut’s “Gold Coast.” As a typical coastal New England town, the area is picturesque and retains a colonial feel. There are many diverse neighborhoods, each unique with its own pizazz. With beaches to walk on, many parks and greenspace, fine dining, and upscale shopping, Fairfield has become an ideal place to live, especially since it is only about 50 miles from New York City. Architecture includes homes dating to the late 1700s and includes Greek Romanesque and Colonial Revival. Of course, there are many spacious modern homes, posh townhouses, and luxury condominiums.

Residents of Fairfield have the best of both worlds: A thriving suburb with walkable streets, community activities, and all the excitement and nightlife New York City has to offer. Locals are involved in their community, and many are members of one of the 27 different neighborhood associations. The neighborhoods are set up for walking and interaction with others. People enjoy getting together at the Fairfield Farmers Market for the freshest produce, artisan breads, crafts, herbal products, and soaps.

To find craft cocktails, an extensive wine list, diverse small plates, kettle-cooked seafood, seasonal local vegetables, and quality braised meats, make a beeline for The Sinclair for a terrific date night. But if you’re craving tacos, it’s Malibu Taco to the rescue with their chipotle chopped shrimp taco.
Of course, the unlimited shopping of New York City is always available to Fairfield residents, but Fairfield boasts its own high-end boutiques, independent stores, antique shops, designer clothing stores, and home décor shops in the Post Road area and the Black Rock Turnpike district.
Things to Do
Sun worshipers and water sports lovers will have a blast at the five different Fairfield beaches available to the public. For those who love boating, the Fairfield Marinas, South Benson Marina, and Ye Yacht Yard await. Kayak racks are also available. The manmade Lake Mohegan is a favorite and includes swimming, a playground, a picnic shelter, and hiking trails.

Fairfield is served by the Fairfield Public Schools District and is notable for its 11 public elementary schools, 3 middle schools, and 2 High Schools. Fairfield is also home to the prestigious Fairfield University and Sacred Heart University.
