Milford, Connecticut had a sweeping and dramatic dance with history, and anyone who is interested in the founding of our nation instantly falls in love with it. Of course, it doesn’t hurt that it’s also a picturesque coastal area with beauty as far as the eye can see. By 1639, settlers were living here, and their progeny went on to heroism in the Revolutionary War. Time went on and building went on, and Milford became known as a beach resort. It was formally incorporated as a city in 1959.
Today, Milford is a thriving coastal city that has managed to maintain all of its colonial New England charm. It has become a popular vacation area for nearby towns and states as well as a coveted place to live. The retail industry has thrived and includes a huge mall as well as many upscale boutiques and independent stores, antique shops, and fine-dining establishments. The economy is strong and diverse and includes corporate offices, manufacturing, and high-tech firms. Historic architecture includes Colonial, Federal, Italianate, and Greek Revival styles. There are also spacious modern homes, posh townhouses, and luxury condominiums.

Residents of Milford are never bored. Between their excellent shopping centers, 17 plus miles of beach for sunbathing and water activities, museums and art galleries, and their beloved Town Green, life is exciting. Concerts, festivals, fairs, arts and crafts shows, and more are hot attractions on the Town Green. The sense of community is very strong with many organizations to join and people to meet. The Downtown Milford Farmers Market is a popular hangout for the best in fresh produce, artisan breads, herbal products, soaps, and live music.

For the best in American food, head to the Stonebridge Restaurant, and make sure you try the fresh lobster roll. Over at Citrus, you can hang out with the locals for happy hour and their many craft beers, and then you can go on to have the pan-roasted New Zealand lamb rack.
For those who crave more exotic fare, the Taste of Thai Restaurant offers scintillating dishes, and do try the mango shrimp curry. You can’t go wrong at GG’s Wood Fired Pizza. How does a roasted duck pizza sound to you? Don’t forget the cannoli!

Things to Do
The annual arts and crafts Fair on the Green includes over 100 artists offering “wooden furniture, pottery, jewelry, quilts, hand-dipped candles, tie-dyed clothing,” and more. The Milford Arts Council offers exhibits, music, theater, dance, workshops, and classes.
Make a day of it picnicking, sunbathing, or fishing off the pier at Walnut Beach. The Milford Historical Society offers historic house tours, a collection of Indian artifacts, herb gardens and herb crafters, and a country store and gift shop. There are hiking trails, a splash pad, and tennis and pickleball courts at the Eisenhower Park for those who love green space.
