Welcome to Shelton

A New England city reinvented into an urban delight

There are a handful of places where you can go for a stroll and say to yourself, “I’m walking where the Pilgrims walked.” Shelton is one of those places. The area was settled in 1639, almost 400 years ago. Over the years it became a manufacturing center because of the Housatonic River dam which provided waterpower. This in turn caused the rise of mills and other industry, and the area successfully and purposely grew into a thriving center. The town name changed a few times, but in 1915 it was officially incorporated as the City of Shelton.

Today, Shelton is a bustling and vibrant city that has retained its rich history and New England splendor, yet it leaps ahead as a sophisticated urban center. Properly set up, it has attracted major firms for corporate office space and has a revitalized downtown area. There are over 250 acres of parks and open green space. Some older architecture has been restored, including brick and cobblestone streets, and other older buildings have been renovated into posh new luxury condominiums. The streets are tree-lined and include older estates, modest new homes, and townhouses.
